Stevens Hospital: Contract ratified!

More than 350 SEIU Healthcare 1199NW members from throughout Stevens Hospital came together to hear the details of our new contract last Thursday and Friday. The overwhelming majority voted to approve the agreement and many consider it to be the best we’ve ever achieved here at Stevens.

Chris Mallory,

MT, Lab

“We won a great contract! The high cost of living adjustment will help to keep pace with inflation. New successorship, subcontracting, and maintenance of benefits language provides more job security than we’ve had in the past. By working with other hospitals to create a training fund and possible future retirement plan, we are building the relationships that will ensure future for healthcare. All of these important steps have moved us in a great direction to make even more progress.”

Some highlights include:
Successorship language that protects our union contract if the hospital is sold

Subcontracting protections to help keep our jobs here at Stevens

Maintenance of benefits ensuring that there will be no increase in cost or loss of coverage in our medical plan

4% raises for everyone in the first year

A training fund created with four other hospitals to support those who want to build careers in healthcare

Agreement to work with other hospitals to create a more secure and portable retirement plan

The right to use meeting rooms at the hospital for union events

“With all the uncertainty that Stevens has faced recently, our new successorship language will give us the security we need moving forward. ” —Diane Moller, RN SCN

“With the cost of everything going up these days, it was important to win protection against rising healthcare costs and a cost of living increase that kept up with the economy. By staying strong together, we accomplished that and more!” —Karen Borozan, RN, MBU
