SEIU Healthcare 1199NW’s mission is to unite, build power among, and improve standards for healthcare workers and to fight for quality, affordable healthcare for all Washingtonians.  In support of these goals, Field Administrative Assistants play a key role using data and organizational skills to support the union organizing team of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.  The ideal candidate for this position will have an understanding of union organizing, experience with UnionWare or VAN, experience in data management, and experience with event logistics. This position reports to the Office Manager and work is directed by the Lead Field Administrative Assistant.

Primary Responsibilities

Data Management

  • Develop and manage data plans for campaigns
  • Create reports using Unionware, VAN, excel, and access
  • Assist field staff with tracking and reporting on activities, bargaining campaigns, and internal and external trainings
  • Maintain member data and report to the local and international union
  • Assist in setting data standards
  • Train staff on database use


  • Provide logistical planning and support for chapter and union-wide events including votes, bargaining, pickets, special events, trainings, assemblies and other activities
  • Assist with proofing and tracking of documents, letters, files, and Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Maintain internal calendars and tracking systems
  • Provide software and hardware support to field staff
  • Attend staff, executive board and union-wide meetings as assigned, may coordinate presentations and take minutes
  • Support staff and members with travel logistics
  • Provide clerical support as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Experience working for a progressive organization, labor union or campaign for progressive candidate or initiative preferred


Technical Skills:

  • Microsoft Office (will be tested): Intermediate Word, Excel, Access, Outlook
  • Experience using, maintaining, and learning various databases
  • Experience with UnionWare or VAN preferred

Physical Requirements:  Work is performed 95% in an office setting and 5% in the field.

Compensation:  Competitive salary and excellent benefits as set by collective bargaining agreement.  The hourly range is $20.68 – $28.70 hourly (depending on experience).

Employment Term:  This is a permanent position, with a three (3) month initial probationary period.

External Healthcare Organizers: Work with non-union healthcare workers to successfully form their union. Engage worksite leaders and member organizers around a vision of union difference and leadership that WIN union elections and first contracts.

  • Your job would focus on identifying and activating leaders, utilizing strong active listening skills to determine workplace concerns and articulate a plan to win resulting in the successful GOTV of worker votes in union elections or card check campaigns.
