Our committee met with management on April 16 on Effects Bargaining regarding layoffs. We made our expectations clear for the layoffs regarding the contract language on seniority and proposed a fair severance package.
Here is a timeline of what has taken place regarding the up coming layoffs:
- March 14 – Management had informed staff of their need to make cuts to our membership due to budget problems
- March 18 – Delegates met with management. Informed April 1 is when layoffs will be known with no idea as to how many and which departments. Management would ask for volunteers but no offer of a severance package by management.
- March 27 – Management makes mandatory cuts of four members in the dental department.
- April 2 – Our membership held a meeting to discuss the process where management is not in compliance of the contract and the lack of respect by management for not offering a severance package. We formed a committee to meet with management and came up with an action plan for the membership.
- April 3 – Letter requesting to meet on Effects Bargaining was hand delivered. Management offers dates.
- April 16 – Management and our Delegates met to resolve the seniority and process issue and severance package.
- CHC responded to our severance proposal and seniority language on April 24.
- CHC did not agree to our full severance package of wages and 25% sick cash out.
- CHC will not agree to abide by our contract language regarding “classification seniority shall be the determining factor” in the layoff.
